This is a fantasy plant based off a spotted touch-me-not / jewel weed plant. These plants explode when touched so I thought it would be cool to have them actually explode. I used Arnold for Maya to Render and Houdini for the effects.
The effect is using the new vellum soft-bodies interacting with Pyro. Since vellum was new at the time of creation, it was a challenge to figure out how to get the effect to act right and get the Pyro to interact with it.
The look-dev and light for this project were also very important for me, so I focused heavily on these aspects
